Another happy hour I came to during my weekend getaway. I was in the mood for some drinks and small bites because I was going to be meeting family later in the day. I got there around 330 so it wasn't too busy I decided to sit at the bar and there was plenty of seats available. I ordered two drinks and three food items. The drinks were well made strong and delicious even got a little buzz going on lol. The food was the best part though! The tuna tartare was oh so good and those rice crackers just went well together. The carpaccio was like eating butter! It was so good and it just melted in your mouth once you took a bite. The imperial egg rolls were some of the best egg rolls I've eaten. The staff member helping me asked if I had ever ordered those and I told him no so he explained to me how the egg rolls are eaten. You grab a piece of lettuce some noodles add a roll and little piece of the mint leaf then roll it and dip it into that sauce. Everything about that bite was so good you got all these flavors hitting you at the same time and the mint leaf just paired well with the dipping sauce. This is another great place for a date night or dinner and next time I come I already know what ima be ordering!
This is a great location. The restaurant is bright, open and spacious. Service is excellent- they are attentive and thoughtful. Food is excellent. Most dishes are made to share. My favorites are the cellophane noodles (I could probably eat the whole serving by myself) and caramelized shrimp.
Overall a good experience! Upscale Vietnamese food. Simple modern ambience. Good service. Great location at City Center (free garage parking). It's located on ground floor. We went to lunch here and sat outside. 4/5 stars overall experience 3/5 stars for the Beef Pho: lacking flavor even after I added the jalapeño, basil, and sauces. Lacking flavor compared to countless pho I've had at various restaurants in the past 2 decades. This tasted like it was made for an inexperienced western palate that's is afraid of flavor. It wasn't terrible. It was just ok. The Yellowtail was melt in your mouth and packed with flavor. The Banh Nam was so good, rich, and had nuanced flavor. We LOVED these appetizers! Got the snail green tea. Overpriced at $8 IMO. Not a real snail product. A fine green tea but nothing special. Would go back, would recommend, but personally would not get the beef pho again unless I desperately needed soup.
I've been to the SF location many years ago when this was the only hip Vietnamese cuisine back in the early 2000s. It was where you'd take your dates. It's where you'd dress to impress. Either the times have changed or I'm just decades older. Maybe a little bit of both. I do remember it being a little upscale, but I was stunned when I saw the $58 shaking beef here. I am sure the filet mignon is of high quality, but north of $50 of anything is not in my wheelhouse. I shared my opinion with our server Brooklyn. She said she's new, but she is so professional and sweet. She's also a doppelgänger of a famous gymnast or an actress turned duchess. If you go there, you'll know what I mean. We had some good laughs with her. Thanks for being a good sport Brooklyn. Today I had a nice healthy lunch here. Everything was delicious. My buddy and I shared all dishes. The crispy imperial roll and fried soft shell crab are both served with lettuce and Vietnamese herbs. Both are deep fried with a lot of flavor on its own. That is why the lettuce and herbs are there to spread the flavors. To eat, you make a bed of lettuce, put some of the fried goodies over herbs, vermicelli and their sweet fish sauce. It's a burst of flavor and freshness. The final dish is the chicken vermicelli. I was a little disappointed that the portion is a bit small. My friend and I devoured every morsel and leaf of our appetizers and main dish. It's that good, but also not that much of the good stuff. We had to keep asking for more lettuce and they didn't seem to charge us so we appreciate that. I don't mind eating high end Vietnamese cuisine and paying a little premium in a nice venue. I would even pay a few dollars more for let's say their Imperial Rolls but give a little more rolls and side veggies. I felt bad asking for more lettuce, but I also understand it would be wasteful if people don't eat them.
It is official that Slanted Door sadly will not be reopening their Ferry Building location where I have spent many special occasions, Valentine's Days and taken out of town guests. Luckily, I am still able to get one of my faves, their Crispy Vegetarian Imperial Roll at their San Ramon City Center location and gave their tuna tartare and gau choy gau, their version of dim sum classic, shrimp and chive dumplings from their HH street snack menu a try. That gau chou gau was good enough to warrant a second order. That left us enough room for lemongrass marinaded pork chop from their dinner menu. Although shaking beef is one of my faves, the last time I had it, there wasn't much beef so couldn't justify paying $58 if the portion size is the same. You don't get the beautiful SF Bay views in this location as it is part of the City Center, but I think it would be fun to return during the holidays when the decorations are up.
High-end Vietnamese restaurant at The Lot - good place for a business lunch as it is clean, quiet and has a bright, airy ambiance and discreet service. We got there at 11:45 am on a weekday and were seated right away. We ordered mint leaf tea and iced Vietnamese coffee, and the crispy vegetable imperial roll appetizer ($14). He ordered the chicken noodle soup (Pho Ga - $16) and I ordered the beef noodle soup (Pho Bo - $18). The rolls were the best part of the meal - especially when dipped in the sauce they were served with. The soup was filling and flavorful but a bit bland - I had to spice it up a bit. Will be back for business lunches in the future.
Came here with a friend and was pleasantly surprised by the taste of the food! We ordered the shaken beef, whole fish, bak choy and yuba noodles... quite a lot for just two of us. My fav is the shaken beef it was very tender and well seasoned. The service was also very good and the lady deboned the fish for us at our table. The yuba noodle was also good. Of course it's pricey but it was his treat Will be back again.
Very nice ambiance but overpriced indeed Came here on a weekday for dinner and the place was quite full with many business dinners Ingredients are very high quality Dishes are definitely westernized If you are going for ambiance this is the place to go But if you are craving for Vietnamese food you'd better go to a local pho place
